Documentary Club

Looking for some suggestions - wanting to hear what you've been watching and what kind of films you'd like to watch/discuss going forward.

If you have any suggestions - I've finally got my documentaryclub email address up and working so shoot me an email at scott@documentaryclub.org. If you've got 5 minutes think about this and shoot me an e-mail. What is it that you want to get out of being a member of Documentary Club?

Looking forward to your responses and suggestions! (This forum has been recycle from last month - please keep talking about the films you'd like to watch so we can guage what films interest you!)

Cheers,
Scott Stead

Loved this film - saw it at Silverdocs. The guy seemed a little pretentious and not entirely open to why he was doing it - but it was really interesting watching the dynamic between the married couple and their different reasons for doing it - and what they gained in doing it.

Definitely love to go see this one. :)

Cheers!

Hello all, I saw the film "The Horse Boy" (it was "Over the Hills and Far Away" when I saw it) at Sundance this year as part of a 12 docs in 2 days marathon, and it was one of the best docs and best movies I've ever seen. I just read in the NYT's that it's going to be showing in NYC, so I'm assuming a bigger release is coming. Truly rare, cinema verite movie about an epic journey to Mongolia by a family to heal their autistic son. You won't believe what happens....

Wow, yeah Jordan - great suggestion. I saw this at Silverdocs and was blown away. Very well produced and such an amazing story it's almost hard to believe that it's a documentary. If it weren't for the director being there afterwards to discuss the film and take questions from the audience - he guaranteed us it was not intentionally made to seem more 'supernatural' than it was, that's just how it happened - I never would have believed it. Definitely hoping this gets a big run - I've already seen posters for it at E Street here in DC - so we'll have to see what kind of release it gets. This is absolutely the kind of film that blows me away.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Cheers!
Scott

I've been thinking about throwing a Nerdcore Rising party in DC? Would anyone else be game for throwing a screening in their town to support the DVD release from B-Side? What else would you like to see?

Actually - looking back at Jordan's post - I believe Horse Boy is coming soon! Perhaps that's a little more appealing to a wider demographic. Absolutely beautiful film? What say you?

Here are the film dates http://www.zeitgeistfilms.com/playdates_new.php?directoryname=horseboy
DC starts Oct 16, NY Oct 22nd, CA October 16th-ish

Herb and Dorothy. A charming looking film about a couple who collected an amazing art collection with a modest budget in the 60s.
